11th Condom Day celebrated in Nepal
 

11th Condom Day was organized with a number of activities in Nepal on 22 October. Nepal Red Cross Society and more than 60 other governmental and non-governmental organizations working in the field of HIV/ AIDS, reproductive health, family planning and social marketing of condom were involved in celebrating the day nationwide with the objective of sensitizing the public of the use of condom for protection from HIV/ AIDS and other communicable diseases and family planning. Slogan of this year's Condom Day was "Proper use of condoms for dual protection".


The Condom Day Celebration Committee coordinated by the NRCS organized interaction programmes on radio and television and duet song live performance to raise awareness of the public. Renowned folk singers sang amidst a big crowd imparting message on the importance and use of condom. Street dramas and comedies with messages were also presented on the occasion. Almost 2.5 million people are expected to have received message on condom use from the activities.


The Nepal Red Cross district branches also organized various activities to mark the day. Folk songs, street dramas and rallies were performed displaying placards and banners with message on use of condom, HIV/AIDS and related issues.
Promotion of condom use has got an ample priority from government as well as non-governmental organizations in Nepal for a few years keeping in view the spreading threat of HIV/AIDS and STIs.
