| Background
:
Promotion of Fundamental
Principles and human dignity is essential
in conflict-affected Nepal. There
is a special focus on dissemination
of the principles and values and the
International Humanitarian Law (IHL),
in cooperation with the ICRC. NRCS
will address the discrimination agenda
through all its programmes and through
special activities with youth as well
as a community pilot project. Through
junior/youth Red Cross activities,
it looks forward to promoting an atmosphere
of cooperation, friendship, tolerance,
non-violence and non-discrimination
in local communities.
It will further
promote human dignity and tolerance
among its volunteers and the general
population. This will contribute towards
bringing about positive changes in
people’s behaviour both within
the Nepal Red Cross and in local communities.
Communication activities
are closely related to all the above
mentioned interventions. The national
society aspires to strengthen its
profile and communication. The successful
current radio programme will continue,
as well as increased cooperation with
the media and a strengthened profile
in the NRCS’s own publications.
Goal :
NRCS has brought about changes in
people’s behaviours, increasing
understanding and respect for human
dignity.

The humanitarian
values programme has focused on working
for reducing discrimination and promoting
social harmony in the communities
in line with the Federation Pledge,
as well as Council of Delegates 2005
resolution 3 on discrimination. However,
at the same time, the NRCS has given
equal emphasis to disseminating the
RC principles, the Movement and the
International Humanitarian Law. The
programme is being supported by the
ICRC.
Communication has
been an integral part of the programme.
It is imperative to reach out both
the NRCS and to the general public
presenting both the Fundamental Principles,
humanitarian values and the activities
of the society to ensure a growing
understanding and support for the
Nepal Red Cross, especially due to
the conflict situation in the country.
