Tracing service is an important component of regular activity of Nepal Red Cross Society. The main objective of the tracing service is to relive mental suffering of the victims of conflicts by restoring family links between the members of dispersed families.

The Society has been carrying out some cases of restoring family links for a few years. In this connection, NRCS has started to exchange of Red Cross Message (RCM) with the support of ICRC in the present conflict situation of the country. Under this programme the ICRC will collect messages from detainees and reach their families through the Nepal Red Cross. And Nepal Red Cross in the similar way will collect messages from the families and reach the detainees through the ICRC.

The work of exchanging RCM has already been started in ……conflict affected districts of the country. These districts include the districts from Far-western, Mid-western and Western development regions of the country.

Under its regular programme, the Nepal Red Cross also supports in tracing and locating individuals of dispersed families. A few cases in the past year have been dealt with in the past year by the Society. However, because of the conflict situation and the presence of the ICRC in Nepal the case is mainly dealt by the ICRC itself. So Nepal Red Cross has been working as an auxiliary agency to the ICRC in matters of tracing at present.
