Ambassador Kunio Takahashi Paid a Visit to NRCS

Kathmandu, 30 November
Japanese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Kunio Takahashi has paid
a visit to Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) headquarters
following his tenure in Nepal before a month. Mr.Takahashi
had a courtesy call with Prof. Bishwa Keshar Maskey,
Acting Chairman of NRCS and acknowledged the contribution
made by NRCS in the support of earthquake and tsunami
affected people in Japan this year. NRCS has transferred
35,726 CHF to the Japanese Red Cross Society that was
donated by individuals and institutions in Nepal. In
addition NRCS had a support of 2,000 CHF on the next
day of the disaster. The donation in Nepal will be continuously
collected till March 2012.
Meanwhile, recalling the years long cooperation between
Japanese Red Cross Society and NRCS, Professor Maskey
said , “ We must appreciate the JRCS for its incredible
contribution in the areas of water and sanitation, human
resources development, blood transfusion services, ambulance
and emergency operations in times and disaster among
others.”
In a question if NRCS was facing any difficulty in its
operation by the political changes in Nepal, Prof. Maskey
explained that there is no difficulty in NRCS operation.
It has smooth operation both in times of armed conflict
and while there is United Maoist Government. This has
been possible because of NRCS’ commitment towards neu tral
and impartial humanitarian services.
Mr.Takahashi briefed his close relationship with the
JRCS and in particular personal relationship with Mr.
Tadateru Konoe, the president of the International Federation
of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and JRCS.
Meanwhile, he has expressed his commitment to strengthen
the cooperation between Japan and NRCS while he works
for another two /three years.
Mr. Bhakta Khawas, Treasurer, Sudarshan Prasad Nepal
Acting Secretary General and Indra Adhikari, Director
of Communication and Humanitarian Values Department
were also present in the official meeting.
Following the meeting ambassador has visited NRCS human
resource development centre which was set up in the
support of Japanese Red Cross 20 years back.
Finally, Professor Maskey invited His Excellency to
manage a visit, in his convenience, to the NRCS programme
community who have improved lives through water and
sanitation programme in Red Cross support for years.
