Chairman of Nepal Re Cross Society Ramesh Kumar Sharma gave away prizes and certificates to the winners of National Essay Competition amid a function organized at the Central Office of NRCS on 16th December 2004.

The first prize winner of the competition, Chandan Aryal of Syangja district received a cash prize of Rs. 6,000 and certificate. Ved Prakash Bhatta of Dadeldhura, Sarad Bhandari of Nuwakot and Ram Kisun Tharu of Bardiya district received second, third and consolation prize respectively. They received Rs. 4,000, 2,000, 1,000 and certificates.

Giving congratulations, Chairman Sharma said that the country has expected a lot from the Red Cross in the present conflict situation. He added, "This type of competition can be of great help to promote the ideals of Red Cross, and it will help to build a better society." Representing the winners the first-prize winner Chandan Aryal said that there are various reasons behind discrimination in our society. He further emphasizes, "Lack of education is the major cause of discrimination."

The ceremony was chaired by the Chairman of Humanitarian Values Promotion Committee Lalit Jung Shahi and Executive Director of NRCS Badri Khanal welcomed the guests. Federation Representative Karin Hakansson Furga also congratulated the winners on the occasion.

The essay competition on "Role of Youth in Building Discrimination Free Society" was organized among youths of up to 25 years to raise awareness on the issue of discrimination.
