Introduction :
With
an aim to increase women membership
in the Red Cross and encourage them
for better participation in its all
tires as well as in its all activities,
Women Development Section (WDS) was
established in 1998.
Since
then, WDS has been constantly making
efforts coordinating with different
Departments, Programmes and District
Chapters to promote gender sensitivity,
increase women membership and their
effective participation in the organization,
leadership and management.
This
Section also lunch special programmes
to enhance women capacities, gender
equity and others
Objective
: To promote gender sensitivity
at all level of NRCS and increase
women membership and their participation
in the organization, leadership and
management.
Area coverage:
Throughout the country
Activities
:
*
Develop gender and other relevant
policies and advocating gender issues
at all levels.
* Provide
orientation to volunteers and staff
members on gender issues at all levels
and develope gender resource person
in all 75 districts.
* Promote
women membership in Red Cross.
* Conduct
different training/workshop/seminar
on gender and other relevant issues
and produce more and more active gender
advocates in NRCS
Project
: Women Development Section
is implementing Gender and Women Development
Project in six district chapters viz.
Illam, Panchathar, Dolakha, Nawalparasi,
Rupandehi, Dailekh with support of
British Red Cross and DFID through
the Federation.
Total
women members of NRCS are 361,192(39.71%)
among them adult women members are
23,924(and junior/youth members are
337,268.
